Patrick James One Month Update
As I write this Patrick is 6 weeks, but better late than never right?

Our little “Paddy Boy” has officially been with our family for a month now and it is crazy to think about life without him. The nickname has been lovingly been given to him by Makenna. None of us are quite sure where she got it from, but it has stuck. If you call him Patrick, Makenna will promptly tell you …” his name is Paddy Boy!!!”. So, for now, Paddy Boy it is. I still prefer Patrick though, just don’t tell Makenna ;).
One thing I have loved watching is seeing how much Makenna loves him. She runs to him when he cries, she always wants to hold him, and she is always willing to help with him. If you need a diaper, drink, outfit, or wipes–she has you covered!
One hard thing is that Patrick constantly needs to be held. We will go through days where unless he is eating or being held exactly how he wants, he will cry. It makes it incredibly hard to get anything done. I did buy a baby carrier, but I have to limit the use because he will be asleep within 10 minutes in it. And a baby that sleeps all day… doesn’t tend to sleep at night!
Speaking of sleep, that is one thing he is great with. He sleeps from about 10pm/11pm until about 5am/6am. Then he will sleep again from 6 am/7 am to about 8:30 am. Makenna was the same, so this is a huge relief!
He is slowly becoming a fan of baths, crying less with each one. He isn’t 100% sure, but he is getting there. One thing he loves is being wrapped up in a blanket and walking up and down the backyard or driveway.
He has slowly been losing his hair, but the hair he still has is RED! We’re not sure if he’ll keep it, but currently, he is a red-head. It’s also straight too, which was Greg’s one wish. He did not want a kid with curly hair like his.
He has also begun to smile. So far it has mostly been for me, but Greg and my mom have also gotten one.
We’re slowly, like at a snail’s pace, adjusting to life with two kids. It’s hard balancing the needs of a newborn with the needs of Makenna. It’s hard to give her full undivided attention when you also have to hold a newborn. We’re adjusting though and learning as we go. Luckily she loves her brother and for a just turned three-year-old is doing great.
Last but not least, things are about to get a little crazier. In two weeks we will be adding a puppy to the mix. A little corgi girl (born just 3 days before Patrick) will be joining us. We’re not quite sure what we got ourselves into, but it’s going to be fun!
