Great Sand Dunes National Park Engagement Session
It is no secret that I have an immense love for National Parks. They are these magical and majestic pieces of land that show you just what nature is like when it is mostly untouched by humans. Each one has unique views, landscapes and adventures to offer.
So when Linda and Richard asked if we would be willing to travel to the Great Sand Dunes National Park for their engagement session, we could not say yes fast enough. After working out all of the details, we headed down to perfect weather at the Great Sand Dunes.
This park is not for the faint of heart. The dunes are extremely hard to maneuver and require quite a bit of hiking. Just to give you an idea, we climbed the equivalent of over 35 flights of ‘stairs’ during our two hour adventure with these two. Every step was worth it though, as the dunes create beautiful sweeping sand ‘mountains’ to explore while offering views of actual snow capped mountains as well.
We’re so thankful to have adventurous couples who are willing to hike in fancy clothes, scramble up sand mountains, and dance in the sand for amazing shots. These shots are some of our favorite ever and we already can’t wait to head back someday!
Thinking about heading out to the Great Sand Dunes? Here are some of our tips for you:
Wear good shoes! We got lucky to go on an overcast day so the sand wasn’t very hot. However, the sand can reach over 150 degrees in the summer!
Bring plenty of water! Not only are you at a higher altitude in Colorado, you’re also in an open space that is pretty hot.
Take your time! The dunes can be hard to get over, don’t over do it. Take your time and enjoy the views.
