I remember getting engaged, I think I looked at my hand more that first week that I have looked at it my whole life. The way my ring sparkled, the way it clinked, the way it swished around my finger—all of it was so surreal. I was living on cloud nine. And from the moment that ring slid on my finger my mind was racing with a million and one things to do. Set up the pinterest board… stare at my ring… find a venue… stare at my ring… set the date… take photos… Ahh there are just so many things! I want to make it easy on you so I am sharing the top 4 things you need to do once you get engaged!
First things first snap that iconic ring selfie! Sure it may seem a little silly but let’s be real—you need something for the gram! And you want a photo to show your future kids! Basically, don’t rush anything, just take a second to celebrate your engagement. Soak in that amazing feeling and once you come back to reality hit the ground running with planning.
Okay, Okay, I know… This may not be the most romantic thing or the first thing you think of once you get that ring—but this is something that can actually save you a lot of heartache! Your fiancé picked out the perfect diamond to sit on your finger for the rest of your life, you want to make sure it actually stays there! So, if it is feeling a little loose, take it into the jeweler!
Bonus—get your ring insured, it can be added on to your homeowners or renter’s insurance!
This may not be the first thing that pops into your mind, but a budget is needed before any other planning starts! Our tip with a budget is to pick 3 things you can’t live without and budge on the rest! Talk with your fiancé, your parents, and their parents—find out how much money you realistically have for the wedding and go from there.
Once you have a budget you can start officially planning! And what comes first with planning??? The venue! The venue will set the tone for your day, so take your timing finding the perfect one. Do you want garden chic, rustic, elegant? The venue you pick will determine this. One of our biggest tips—find out what really is included! Does the venue provide linens and rentals? Can you bring your own alcohol? With a venue comes the date, and with that, the real fun starts!
Enjoy your engagement! If you take anything away from this post, take this. You are going to be married for the rest of your life, but you only get to be engaged for such a short time. So enjoy it. Truly cherish your time of engagement and get to know each other even better than you did before. Make traditions, make memories, and most of all celebrate. We’re excited for you!
