Now that you have your wedding photographer booked, what’s next? The engagement session of course! Engagement sessions are some of my favorite times with my clients. It is a fun outing where we can get to know each other, get some great photos, and all without the time constraints that weddings have. Since engagement sessions are my favorite, I thought I would share with you four ways to have a truly unique engagement session
Location is hands down one of the best ways to make your engagement session unique. I really challenge my couples to try to think about a place that is special to them. Did you meet in college? Then your campus may be the perfect spot. Is your favorite date your living room couch? Then a fun in home session could be the perfect place. Really no place is off limits when it comes to engagement sessions.
One of my favorite engagement sessions of all time was at Yosemite National Park. Besides Yosemite being ridiculously amazing, it was also a place that meant a lot to our couple so there was an added bonus.
Props are a super fun way to add a little personality to your session. Greg and I love Doctor Who—Greg even proposed with a Tardis ring box. So we wanted to incorporate that into our session. We also incorporated our cameras too because—we’ll that was one of our first dates so how could we not! Bringing something to add to the session can really pump up the personality. However, going simple is great too—don’t feel pressured to bring anything. Your engagement session should be a fun, stress free time.
What says more about you than the way you dress? Let your outfits show your personality. Have you always wanted to rock a formal floor length gown? Then now is the perfect time to get dressed up and have a little fun. Our past brides have shown off their outfits by renting dresses from rent the runway. One of our favorite ways a couple has shown their personalities through their outfits has to be Nolan and Maree!
Some of our favorite sessions have been when we go and do an activity with our clients while capturing photos. From Disney dates to hiking in Joshua tree–dates make for awesome and personalized sessions. If you are a little stumped, some ideas include hiking, camping sessions, visiting museums or zoos. The list really is endless!
I am a huge proponent that pets are family, so why not include them in your engagement session? It is a time to document where you are during this season of life, so including your pet only seems right. Don’t know if you want to include pets? We have your back, check out THIS post for our guide to include your pet or not.
You get to be married a whole lot longer than you get to be engaged. The engagement season truly is such a short season in your epic love story so it deserves to be preserved. However, it doesn’t have to be cookie cutter! So have fun, enjoy this season, and take epic pictures.
