I can’t believe that I have never shared our engagement story with you before! With today marking 5 years since we got engaged, I thought it would be fun to share the story with everyone!
It was Valentine’s weekend 2013 and we were at the San Diego Safari Park for a Roar and Snore adventure–it was Greg Christmas present from me. I was ecstatic to be spending the night at the Safari Park. I love all things animals, and I am pretty sure in another life I was a zoologist. Since the Safari Park is one of our favorite places, Greg suggested we make a day out of it and explore the park during the day too. Even though we had been talking about engagement for the past few months, I was 100% sure Greg would NOT propose this weekend. I had always told Greg I did not want to get engaged over Valentines weekend! I am not a huge fan of the holiday to begin with, so I was pretty adamant about that requirement. Since it was Valentine’s weekend, Greg was sure it was the only chance he had to actually surprise me and went ahead and planned it for the night of the Roar and Snore.
We spent the morning walking around our favorite spots while we waiting on my two best friends to arrive for Roar and Snore. Greg kept checking his phone over and over–it turns out he was waiting on them too. Once they had arrived, we headed towards the camping area and safari overlook. Next to the Okapi space, this is probably my favorite spot at the park. I was focused on taking some pictures of the animals and had my back to everyone. Behind me, Greg was waiting on one knee–anxiously waiting on me to turn around. I am pretty sure my picture taking felt like an eternity. He eventually shouted my name. I placed my camera back in my purse and turned. Instantly I lost my breath at the sight of him on one knee. In a pretty unintelligible babble, I am pretty sure he asked me to marry him. It might have been completely intelligible, but my head was spinning and everything was unintelligible to me at the moment.
Seeing him on one knee with a hand built Tardis was so unreal. Once I realized exactly what was happening, I exclaimed ” TARDIS!!!!!”. Which Greg took as a yes, since they both end with ‘s’. The entire moment was utterly surreal and I remember not really being able to comprehend anything that was happening, other than Greg had a Tardis with a ring inside. I began examining my ring gave Greg a huge hug and rushed over to show my best friends–who I would later ask to be my MOH’s. 🙂 It was such an incredible and surreal moment. I am so thankful I have these photos to look back on, thanks to my now sister in law driving all the way down to capture them!
**P.S. want to know how you can tell my engagement was a TOTAL surprise… Look at what I’m wearing! What was I thinking with those boots and those nails!! lol
